What kind of headshot do I need?

The differences are subtle but they are there. What kind of actor are you? Do you do mostly improv? Theater? Commercial? Corporate? Each area of expertise has a look connected to it. When I shoot, I take them all into consideration. You may be focusing on improv now, but if you decide to tackle corporate or commercial work a week after your shoot you will have an image at your disposal that fits the bill. When in doubt, ask your agent for input.

Do I need a consultation?

If you feel like you would like a consultation, I would be happy to meet with you. They are only necessary if you feel they are. I can get all of the information from you that I will need over the phone or email.

Should I get my headshot done in black and white or color?

I shoot everything digital and in color. The trend in Chicago right now is color. There are agents out there who prefer color to black and white. There are agents who won't even accept black and white. Changing a color image to black and white is easily done.

What should I bring to the shoot?

First...take a deep breath. Good. A lot of people get stressed or nervous about what to bring to wear. A simple rule is: The more you bring, the better.

Some standard things that are good to have:

  • a black T-Shirt
  • medium to dark colored tops

Those two things are the most important. You can do no wrong with black, but bringing color guarantees options. Other than that, solid colors are the best. Clothes you like to wear, that make you feel good, that make you feel beautiful...these are the things you should bring.

Each person will have colors that work well for them, and this is something that will be discussed individually before even coming to the shoot. Bringing a minimum of 4 clothing changes is a great idea. Layers are also fantastic.

Other things to bring include: any props you want to have in any shots (most shots will be done without); your iPod or CDs with music that makes you want to move.
